The Oyster Raleigh 3478 is a classic, wartime-vintage Rolex. It's a small, unisex size "semi bubble back" model. Introduced in 1926 as the world's first reliably waterproof watch, the Rolex Oyster is still in production today. Vintage Oysters inspire almost fanatical enthusiasm on account of their striking period good looks and exquisitely crafted movements. (I hope people say the same about me.) They're over-engineered and rugged. They're a proven strong financial investment. You can actually wear it every day. It's no wonder the Oyster is the most sought-after vintage watch type.
The Swiss mechanical movement in this one has 15 jewels—fifteen rubies built into the mechanism that serve as bushings and bearings. It was originally sold as a "men's" watch. The 29mm case (35mm X 32mm including crown and lugs) is small next to contemporary men's watches—making it more of a midsize/unisex watch.
Outer caseback markings: Stainless Steel / R.W.C. / 192590
Inner caseback markings: Oyster Watch Co / Geneve-Swiss / RWC Ltd / 3478
It is in very good used condition. There are light signs of wear on the casing and caseback. The extra long strap is brand-new aftermarket leather with a vintage Rolex stainless steel clasp in mint condition. The acrylic crystal appears to be brand new, and assumed not original. The black dial, assumed to be original, is in excellent condition. I don't know if it's just incredibly clean or it's been restored. The original hour and minute hands appear to have been very recently restored, including re-applying the luminous materials. The stainless steel crown—signed with "Oyster Patent"—is in excellent condition. You have to unscrew the crown every time you wind or set the watch—so it's no surprise that the threaded area where the crown screws on to the case is visibly worn. It has not been tested for water-resistance.
The previous owner had it serviced by Rolex Service, who returned it in the pictured Rolex box with cleaning cloth. My Certified Master Watchmaker in Silicon Valley completely disassembled, cleaned, reassembled, cleaned, polished, and calibrated this watch in March 2019. Servicing a Rolex isn't cheap. What you don't want is to have to get yours serviced. The most basic service begins about $300, and skyrockets up into the thousands quickly. Between the previous owner and me, it's gotten just under $1,000 in service and restoration in the last year. That's $1,000 in service YOU won't have to pay for, because it's already been done. Keep that in mind when considering the price.
My photos are very high resolution, showing tiny specks of dust and micro-scratches that aren’t noticeable to the naked eye. Please inspect the photos carefully to be sure the condition is up to your standards.
My warranty program takes the worry out of wearing vintage watches. The moving, internal mechanical parts are guaranteed to run for six months from the date of purchase. If it stops working, just contact me and we will arrange for you to ship it back to me. I'll fix it up and send it right back. Easy!
I can fix this watch out of warranty—or any other watch. I also buy vintage watches. Contact me for more info.

I have watchbands in many different styles, colors and materials. If you love the watch but want a different color band, send me a message. I'll see if I have the color you want in my inventory. If I don't, you can swap out the band for any strap you'd like by buying one online or taking it to your local jeweler or watch repair store.
It depends on the watch.
1) Mechanical (hand-winding): These watches use a spring and gears to run. There is no battery. You must wind the watch once daily for it to keep running. Most of my watches are this kind.
2) Mechanical (automatic/kinetic): These use a spring and gears as well as a swinging pendulum that rotates as you move throughout the day. It winds itself. You don't need a battery and you don't need to wind it.
3) Quartz: These use batteries. Your watch will include a brand new battery. They can last anywhere from six months to a few years, depending on the watch.
We don't accept cancellations for a refund. Instead, we offer you store credit which you can use on any of our other items. This store credit is good for one year.
