    F. Suter & Cie (later known as Hafis Watch) was founded in Vienna, Switzerland in 1916 by Fritz Suter-Raetz and his brother. New-York's R. Gsell & Co. started importing Hafis watches to the USA in 1924. While the Hafis Watch technically existed as late as the 1970s, its heyday was between 1924-1950. These early Hafis watches were well-built with classic—and slightly quirky—styling.

    •• DETAILS ••
    This is a "transitional era" gold filled CONVERTIBLE watch circa 1925. That's when fashion was transitioning from pocket watches to wrist watches. It has top and bottom mounting lugs. That means you can wear it as a pendant, a pocket-watch, or add a bracelet and make it a wrist watch. (At checkout you can choose between the pictured USED gold-tone necklace, a NEW OLD STOCK black silk cord bracelet, both, or just the watch all by itself.)

    It has a hinged caseback. This was another common feature in transitional era watches. Pocket watches all had hinged backs. By the 1930s, this feature had disappeared from wrist and pendant watches.

    It features a hand-winding Hafis watch with matte gold-tone dial, black baton hands, and Arabic hour markers. It's 1.25" tall by 1" wide.

    •• CONDITION ••
    It's cosmetically in very good, used condition. There are faint scratches and wear commensurate with ~100 years of handling and infrequent use. The crystal, hands, and movement are in like new condition.

    The mechanical condition is EXCELLENT. Full restoration by our master watchmaker ensures you get a dependable, functional antique timepiece. Every single tiny piece was disassembled, cleaned, inspected, adjusted, reassembled, polished, and calibrated to keep time as well as the day it was first made. Sounds expensive? It was. Restoration on this watch would cost you about $250. (That's $250 that you won't have to pay!)

    Of course, it's not about telling time. It's about how it makes you feel. For creative individualists, a watch is a powerful tool that amplifies the expression of your individuality.

    It is a hand-winding watch. Wind it daily to keep it running. Wind it even when not wearing it and it will last a lifetime—or more! It is not water resistant. Keep it dry!

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Will my package require a signature?

    Yes. A signature is required for all shipments. That way you can rest assured that your items will arrive safely. Make sure to use a shipping address where someone can sign for your package, otherwise you'll have to go to the post office to collect it.

    What shipping method do you use?

    Items with free shipping are sent by USPS First Class with insurance and signature required. Upgraded shipping is USPS Priority Express mail with insurance and signature required.

    Can I upgrade to faster shipping?

    Yes! Upgraded shipping is via USPS Priority Express Mail with insurance and signature required. It usually takes 1-2 days within the continental USA.

    Can I get a different colored watchband?

    I have watchbands in many different styles, colors and materials. If you love the watch but want a different color band, send me a message. I'll see if I have the color you want in my inventory. If I don't, you can swap out the band for any strap you'd like by buying one online or taking it to your local jeweler or watch repair store.

    Does my watch need a battery?

    It depends on the watch.

    1) Mechanical (hand-winding): These watches use a spring and gears to run. There is no battery. You must wind the watch once daily for it to keep running. Most of my watches are this kind.

    2) Mechanical (automatic/kinetic): These use a spring and gears as well as a swinging pendulum that rotates as you move throughout the day. It winds itself. You don't need a battery and you don't need to wind it.

    3) Quartz: These use batteries. Your watch will include a brand new battery. They can last anywhere from six months to a few years, depending on the watch.

    I changed my mind! Can I cancel my order and get a full refund?

    We don't accept cancellations for a refund. Instead, we offer you store credit which you can use on any of our other items. This store credit is good for one year.
