This "Baylor" automatic unisex vintage watch is classy example of Tag Heuer's mid-century automatic timepieces. The brushed gold dial is elegant, and the funky font is characteristic of late 1950s design. It's an automatic watch. No battery, no winding. The movement of your wrist keeps it wound. It has luminous "dauphine" hands and a date feature at 3 o'clock. I mounted it on a new old stock 18mm Speidel brown leather strap, which accents the classic design.
It's the perfect mid-century unisex size of 35mm (1.4") across. It's 1mm smaller than a Rolex Datejust, and a little bigger than the original 1980s Swatch. It was sold as a men's watch, but it will elegantly grace wrists of any gender!
And, you know what the best part is? I LOVINGLY restored this watch to operate like it did when it was new, way back in 1959. YOU'RE WELCOME!
This piece will class up casual and business casual outfits. It's also great for those days when you need to lounge about and look picturesque on the deck of a yacht or golfing on the links.
True Heuer nerds know that Baylor watches were made by Heuer exclusively for sale at Zales Jewelers. This is your chance to own a 1950s Heuer for less than a thousand bucks!

🕰 HEUER and ZALES 🕰
Heuer Watch Company was founded in 1860 by Edouard Heuer. He opened a watchmaking workshop in St-Imier, a village in the Swiss Jura region. Heuer watches soon became recognized for a high level of accuracy and workmanship. Perfect for the timing of sporting events Heuer soon found its niche.
Zales was a chain of jewelry stores based in the USA. They had the Heuer Watch Company build watches for them, which were sold under the name Baylor.
🔎 CONDITION 🔍
It's cosmetically in VERY GOOD used condition. The gold plated case and winding crown show light signs of wear commensurate with age, including wear to the gold plating around hard edges. The crystal is excellent. There is very light patina on the dial. The mechanical movement is pristine.
HOW DOES IT RUN? The 17 jewel PUW 509 movement works LIKE NEW. I fully restored it to ensure you're getting a dependable, functional timepiece. Every single tiny piece of this watch was disassembled, cleaned, inspected, adjusted, reassembled, and calibrated to keep time as well as the day it was first made. Sounds complicated and expensive? It was. A full servicing and mechanical restoration like this generally costs at least $250. (That's over $250 that YOU don't have to pay.)
FUN FACT: The screws in this watch are so tiny that 4,000 of them fit in a thimble!
⏰ OPERATION ⏰
This is a self-winding mechanical watch. No battery; no winding. Give it a little shake and you'll see the second hand start to move. Wearing it for 7 hours is enough to keep it wound for a whole day. It has a power reserve of 40 hours, in case you want to remain VERY VERY VERY still, but you want to know your watch is still keeping perfect time. You should totally try that. Let me know how it goes.
Set the time by pulling the winding crown out to the first detent. Rotate to set the time. Keep rotating the time forward to advance the date. Push the crown back in when you're done.
It claims to be water resistant. I replaced all the gaskets and sealed all the usual places water could get inside. But, I have not personally pressure tested it to confirm. Play it safe and keep it out of the water.
Of course, it's not about telling time. It's about how it makes you feel. For creative individualists, a watch is a powerful tool that amplifies the expression of your individuality.

I have watchbands in many different styles, colors and materials. If you love the watch but want a different color band, send me a message. I'll see if I have the color you want in my inventory. If I don't, you can swap out the band for any strap you'd like by buying one online or taking it to your local jeweler or watch repair store.
It depends on the watch.
1) Mechanical (hand-winding): These watches use a spring and gears to run. There is no battery. You must wind the watch once daily for it to keep running. Most of my watches are this kind.
2) Mechanical (automatic/kinetic): These use a spring and gears as well as a swinging pendulum that rotates as you move throughout the day. It winds itself. You don't need a battery and you don't need to wind it.
3) Quartz: These use batteries. Your watch will include a brand new battery. They can last anywhere from six months to a few years, depending on the watch.
We don't accept cancellations for a refund. Instead, we offer you store credit which you can use on any of our other items. This store credit is good for one year.
