Ernest Borel's 1950s "Cocktail" gold-plated square antique ladies watch with premium leather bracelet is both rare heirloom jewelry AND a moving kaleidoscope on your wrist!

The retro-futuristic, Space Age kaleidoscope rotates constantly. Ready to have your mind blown? Turn it over and watch the mechanical parts move through the see-through "skeleton" back.

It's an attention-getter. People will constantly stop you to talk about this watch. You can't blame them. It has the same effect as a Roomba or a TV with the sound turned off. You'll find yourself just gazing at it—unable to stop yourself.

These are rare because they were made in low volumes, and weren't officially imported into the USA. Instead, Ernest Borel sold them exclusively on cruises and at fancy resorts in the 50s and 60s. And, this square one is ESPECIALLY uncommon.

❤️ WHY IS THIS ONE SPECIAL? ❤️

1) Although all of the Borel Cocktail watches are rare, the vast majority were round. Less than 1% of Ernest Borel's antique Cocktail watches were made in this larger square design.

2) Extra-sturdy 20 micron gold electroplated case. That's over 4x more gold than average gold plated jewelry. It was made to be a family heirloom you could wear everyday.

3) Customized with a SUPER supple Hirsch Diamond series 17mm black scratch-resistant calfskin bracelet. It's the softest, most supple leather available. This top-of-the line Hirsch calfskin band alone sells for $40. It fits small and large wrists, up to a max diameter 8.3" (21.1cm) around. Use a measuring tape to measure around your wrist. 🔎 CONDITION 🔍

It's cosmetically in SUPERIOR used condition. The band is brand new, the front and rear crystals are brand new and flawless, the kaleidoscope dial is perfect, and the mechanical movement shows no signs of wear. The gold plated case and winding crown have light, tiny micro-scratches and wear commensurate with ~70 years of infrequent, light use. It's incredible to find a watch this age in such good condition. You'll get the exact watch that's in the photos.

HOW DOES IT RUN? The high-beat (21,600 vibrations per hour) shock-resistant Felsa 401 17-jewel movement was restored to be both beautiful AND functional. Every single tiny piece of this watch was disassembled, cleaned, inspected, adjusted, reassembled, and calibrated to keep time as well as the day it was first made. Sounds complicated and expensive? It was. This service and restoration is worth at least $300. (That's over $300 that YOU don't have to pay.)

FUN FACT: The screws in this are so small that 4,000 can fit in a thimble.

⏰ OPERATION ⏰

Mechanical (hand-winding) shock-resistant Felsa 401 movement. It's a 17-jewel movement. That means it has 17 rubies built into the mechanism, serving as bushings and bearings. Look closely and you can see them through the clear skeleton back.

Wind it once daily by turning the crown clockwise until you feel a slight resistance. It has a power reserve of 36 hours, in case you forget and skip a day. If you want it to last a lifetime, keep it wound every day—even if you're not wearing it.

To set the time, gently pull the crown out to the first detent and rotate it. Be gentle. You only have to pull it out about 1mm. Push it back in when done.

NOT WATER RESISTANT. Keep it dry!

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my package require a signature?

Yes. A signature is required for all shipments. That way you can rest assured that your items will arrive safely. Make sure to use a shipping address where someone can sign for your package, otherwise you'll have to go to the post office to collect it.

What shipping method do you use?

Items with free shipping are sent by USPS First Class with insurance and signature required. Upgraded shipping is USPS Priority Express mail with insurance and signature required.

Can I upgrade to faster shipping?

Yes! Upgraded shipping is via USPS Priority Express Mail with insurance and signature required. It usually takes 1-2 days within the continental USA.

Can I get a different colored watchband?

I have watchbands in many different styles, colors and materials. If you love the watch but want a different color band, send me a message. I'll see if I have the color you want in my inventory. If I don't, you can swap out the band for any strap you'd like by buying one online or taking it to your local jeweler or watch repair store.

Does my watch need a battery?

It depends on the watch.

1) Mechanical (hand-winding): These watches use a spring and gears to run. There is no battery. You must wind the watch once daily for it to keep running. Most of my watches are this kind.

2) Mechanical (automatic/kinetic): These use a spring and gears as well as a swinging pendulum that rotates as you move throughout the day. It winds itself. You don't need a battery and you don't need to wind it.

3) Quartz: These use batteries. Your watch will include a brand new battery. They can last anywhere from six months to a few years, depending on the watch.

I changed my mind! Can I cancel my order and get a full refund?

We don't accept cancellations for a refund. Instead, we offer you store credit which you can use on any of our other items. This store credit is good for one year.
