Calling all steampunk dandies! Are you ready?

This large, attention-getting Victorian-era antique Sears railroad pocket watch is glorious Victorian steampunk jewelry for a best man, groom, or YOURSELF. It's big and sturdy. The minimalist, white dial has easy-to-read Roman Numeral hour markers. There is a "sub second" dial. It was for railway station agents and railroad conductors used to track train arrivals down to the second. It includes the pictured gold filled watch chain, which you can attach to a vest, waistcoat, or slacks.

I fully restored this watch to operate like it did when it was new in 1890. YOU'RE WELCOME!

It features a BIG gold filled case (2.1" / 54mm across) with a screw-off caseback. Removing the back lets you see the COOLEST things about the watch: the beautiful, ornate hand-carved detailing and the wonderful blued steel screws and adjustment levers.

The gleaming gold and ornate case bring richness and class to any outfit. It will dress up casual clothes, and is perfect for special event formal-wear.

There is NOTHING as steampunk as a watch used on ACTUAL STEAM TRAINS. Great for a steampunk wedding, date night, and costume events! It'll fall right into place for steampunk and Anime cosplay, too.

Notice the 7 small circles on the back plate where it says Chicago? Those are rubies! Rubies were used as bushings and bearings to keep the metal parts from wearing out. It's lasted over 100 years, so they do a good job!

At the age of 22, Richard Warren Sears founded the R.W. Sears Watch Company in 1886. He'd worked at the train station in Northwood, Minnesota to supplement his family's meager income. He knew every railroad worker needed an accurate, inexpensive pocket watch. By 1887, his business was flourishing. He moved to Chicago, where he produced a 50-page mail-order catalog devoted entirely to watches. Soon he was selling thousands of dollars worth of "fully guaranteed" watches each month.

Sears was not a watch manufacturer, but contracted "private label" watches for their Edgemere brand from extremely high-quality manufacturers, including Elgin, Seth Thomas, and Illinois Watch. Sears continues to sell watches, over 120 years later.

It's cosmetically in VERY GOOD used condition. The gold plated case and winding crown show light signs of wear commensurate with 130 years of use and handling. The glass crystal has light marks of wear, but no cracks. The original enamel dial, hands, and mechanical movement are all in immaculate, LIKE NEW condition. It is truly incredible to find a watch so old with dial, movement, and hands in such pristine condition.

HOW DOES IT RUN? The 7 jewel hand winding movement works LIKE NEW. I fully restored it to ensure you're getting a dependable, functional timepiece. Every single tiny piece of this watch was disassembled, cleaned, inspected, adjusted, reassembled, and calibrated to keep time as well as the day it was first made. Sounds complicated and expensive? It was. Parts for Sears watches are incredibly rare. A full servicing and mechanical restoration like this generally costs at least $250. (That's over $250 that YOU don't have to pay.)

FUN FACT: The screws in this watch are so tiny that 4,000 of them fit in a thimble!

This is a mechanical (hand-winding) watch. Wind it daily by turning the winding crown clockwise until you feel slight resistance. It will run for about 36 hours before you need to wind it again. Do you want it to last forever? Keep it wound when you're not wearing it. (Unwound watches get gunked up and corrode. You don't want that!)

Set the time by pulling the winding crown out to the first detent. Rotate to set the time. Push it back in when done.

It is not water resistant. Keep it away from water.

Of course, it's not about telling time. It's about how it makes you feel. For creative individualists, a watch is a powerful tool that amplifies the expression of your individuality.

What shipping method do you use?

Can I get a different colored watchband?

I have watchbands in many different styles, colors and materials. If you love the watch but want a different color band, send me a message. I'll see if I have the color you want in my inventory. If I don't, you can swap out the band for any strap you'd like by buying one online or taking it to your local jeweler or watch repair store.

Does my watch need a battery?

It depends on the watch.

1) Mechanical (hand-winding): These watches use a spring and gears to run. There is no battery. You must wind the watch once daily for it to keep running. Most of my watches are this kind.

2) Mechanical (automatic/kinetic): These use a spring and gears as well as a swinging pendulum that rotates as you move throughout the day. It winds itself. You don't need a battery and you don't need to wind it.

3) Quartz: These use batteries. Your watch will include a brand new battery. They can last anywhere from six months to a few years, depending on the watch.

I changed my mind! Can I cancel my order and get a full refund?

We don't accept cancellations for a refund. Instead, we offer you store credit which you can use on any of our other items. This store credit is good for one year.
